APPRECIATE YOUR BODY!
October 1, 2000
By Shelia Shumate
Are you taking for granted how flexible
your body is when you bend down to pick up something, how quickly your
body takes you to run off to catch a taxi or bus, the stamina to work in
your yard, your mental to create reports for work or the vitality to play
with your children? Think of the amount of energy we expect from our physical
body and our mental mind. Go here, do that, always on the go or being in
two places at one time.
Our body requires fuel (energy)
to keep it running properly and what do we put into it, fast or frozen
foods, junk foods, snacks which provides little or no nutrition. Our bodies
require a lot of water and how much do we drink daily? What about rest
and relaxation? Are our bodies getting the amount needed to operate
properly? Its a wonder our bodies function at all, the way we sometimes
treat it. Think of your car if you don’t respect it by
changing the oil, putting in gas,
and giving it a tune-up once in a while, it will not perform for you and
neither will your bodies, your bodies will shut down, through a weak point
in sickness or disease.
What are some of the things you
say about your body? Do you appreciate and respect your body, if so how?
Do you ever thank your body for all the wonderful things it does?
Are you grateful for being able to see, hear, taste, smell, touch, bend
and stretch? If so, say so. Say it out loud, say it to your body,
say it to a higher power and any way that feels good for you. Are you grateful
for you mental clarity, your emotions, your inner voice? If so, say so
and feel what happens to you when coming from that space of gratitude.
Or are you always complaining: Why
can't I run faster? I am so tired. My back aches. Wish I had a smaller
nose. My hips are too big and on and on. Are you finding fault
with your body, especially with what it cannot do, rather than praising
it for what it does? If we took the time to praise our physical, mental
and emotional bodies as much as we criticize them, can you imagine the
positive energy we are feeding it? Our bodies want to perform for us, but
as long as we complain, criticize and think of what it isn’t doing, it
makes it difficult to be all it can be.
Make this a day to appreciate and
respect your physical, mental and emotional bodies, tell it how much you
appreciate what it does and Just Be!
LET GO...BUT WHY?
October 15, 2000
By Shelia Shumate
Let go of situations filled with
pain and hurt, let go of worries about the future, let go of negative feelings
and let go of the past. All this hype about letting go, but how and why?
How will it serve me? Some people say, “I am okay with who I am,
why should I change?” Until you can answer that, it will be impossible
for you to change anyway. There are others who want to know how to let
go, though.
If your life is full of joy, peace,
love, beauty and honesty, then great, you are an example for us! However,
some of us are still striving for the joy and peace within and to experience
love and beauty in all that we say and do. Let us keep reminding
each other to let go, be all we can be in this human form and remember
who we are.
I, for one, am striving to allow,
accept, forgive and be thankful daily. To remember who I am; that I am
love, I am divine. When I want to release a painful situation, I visualize
the situation in detail, see what I was wearing, the surroundings and especially
feel the emotions and feelings at the time. I visualize the people involved
and see myself saying to each one, “I know you are doing the best
you can under your circumstances for the amount of knowledge and wisdom
you had access to at that time. I know you have had your own past
hurts and pain that cause you to act and say things because of the pain
within you. Because of your own lack of self-love, you strike out
to others and I choose to forgive you
because I know you are striving
to do the best you can. I choose to let this situation go into God's love
and light. I surrender the situation over to the Higher Power, to
God. I am a child of God and so are you. We are one, your pain
is my pain, your strength is my strength. I choose to love, forgive and
let go.”
Make this a day to letting go of
any negative feelings and strive to be all you can be in the light of God
and then Just Be!
